5 Staycation Ideas to Celebrate the Final Days of Warmer Weather

The days are getting shorter, the wind is getting nippier, and the desire to create late-summer-slash-early-fall memories is at its annual peak. We haven’t quite made it to winter break yet, but let’s face it, we could all use a little break right about now. What better time to start planning a staycation? 


If you play your cards right, you don’t have to leave your city – or even your neighborhood, depending on where you live! – to enjoy a lovely little sojourn that shakes up your day-to-day. There's something about the transition between summer and fall that brings out the year's best art and food festivals. From burger week and beer fests to handmade craft shows and vernissages, you're all but guaranteed to find a ton of free or low-cost events popping up in your area right about now. There may also be a few more open-air concerts happening in the coming weeks so you can get enjoy one last outdoor dance party!

There's no shame in spending a gorgeous early-autumn day (or weekend) indoors! Wouldn't you rather knit a pair of socks, create a splashy scrapbook, or paint an accent wall while admiring the golden afternoon light than boxed in by a snowstorm or downpour? If you ask us, there's no bad time to go to the spa – but some are still better than others. Instead of making a mad dash between outdoor water features during the winter or sweating inside of a hot tub during the summer, early-autumn trips to the spa feel just right. Enjoy listening to the leaves rustle in the trees, feel the last licks of warmth from the sun, and gaze up at the deep blue sky. Now that’s a staycation.
